Miles: 30 Weather: overcast to begin, changing to
sun, temp in the low 70's
This morning I assembled my bike in my room, cleaned up a few parts
that I missed during disassembly and lubricated my chain. Then it
was
off to the Red Lion for our mandatory safety check. In my "small
world" story for this year, a colleague from my County Counsel days and
his wife--Andrew and Judith Gustafson--are also riding from coast to
coast. After a short safety check I was able to join them, Jeff
and Robert for a ride out to the ocean for the ceremonial ocean
dipping. We got to 30 miles by taking a few "detours."
This afternoon we had our orientation and first group
dinner. Tomorrow the ride begins. There are 48 starting
tomorrow with 7 staff; 33 of us are going all the way to Portsmouth.
