Miles: 51
Weather: (I'm going to quit reporting the weather unless there is
something remarkable. Mike Munk seems to do a good job of it on
his web
journal, if you're really interested.)
Today was an easy day to get us going after our rest day. About 5
new riders joined us and about the same number left us at Boise (you
can choose to do the whole cross-country trip or just one or more
segments). Most of us arrived at the motel by noon.
There wasn't all that much to photograph. We started out leaving
downtown to the east through a nice residential neighborhood,
eventually ending up on a bike path to the north of the Boise
River. About 7 miles out, we crossed over the river on this
bridge:
Here are the views from the bridge to the east and west:
We then climbed up a bit to reach a
frontage road along I-84. Here is the Boise skyline from the top
of that climb (click on the picture for a larger version):
When the frontage road ended, we hopped on to I-84 for about 30 miles
until the exit for Mountain Home. We did exit once for a SAG
stop. Here is the SAG van and a view to the north from the SAG
stop:
My rear wheel felt soft as I started out, even though the tire felt
like it had plenty of air. Then a new noise from the rear
appeared, sounding like spokes rubbing each other. The spokes
felt a little loose. At the "mechanics" time after the ride, I
tightened them a bit and Mark re-trued the wheel. I'm not sure
the noise is gone and Mark tells me that the rims I have are notorious
for unsolvable noises. We'll see how this works out.
