Day 16: Jackson to Dubois, Wyoming
July 6, 2004
Miles: 88
After Teton Pass yesterday, today wasn't supposed to be as
difficult. The climbing wasn't as long or as steep. That
was all true but unfortunately my day got off to a bad start with
another one of our underwhelming breakfasts, the motel's continental
breakfast of breads, cold cereal and danish. I didn't eat much
from that spread and spent the rest of the day trying to catch up my
fuel supply, which I finally achieved near the end of the route.
That wasn't easy as there were no good lunch stops along the way.
I ended up eating two prepackaged ham (I think) and cheese sandwiches
before tackling the climb to the continental divide, as high as we get:
Our route was north out of Jackson, past the Tetons
then turning east at one of the entrances to Yellowstone National Park.
At the bottom of the continental divide descent, I found this
interesting rock
face:
I caught up with Robert and rode the final 30 miles into Dubois
(pronounced Da-boys) with him. It was mostly downhill and at
times I was coasting at 30 mph.
