Today we had a nice "warm up" climb right out of Chamberlain, then mild
rollers to mostly flat terrain. The winds were again either in
our face or from the left. They lessened the effect of the
humidity. Here is a sample view from the road:
We saw a lot of recent chip-seal on the roads today, a five-mile
section in the middle and the last 11 miles into Mitchell. The
oil had set so they weren't bad to ride on, except for the dust and
gravel that was kicked up by the cars that were driving too fast.
The sand blasting became worse as we approached town.
Mitchell's claim to fame is its
Corn Palace, which is decorated each year with corn plants. This year's theme is the Lewis and Clark
expedition:

After dinner, I walked across the interstate to the Cabela's
store. They claim to have one of the best inventories of hunting
and fishing gear; I'd have to agree.
