Day 27: Mitchell to Sioux Falls,
South Dakota
Day 28: Rest Day
July 17, 2004
Miles: 72
Today was a pretty easy day. The sunny day that was predicted
never quite made it but the high overcast kept the temps down. We
even encountered a little fog at the river just east of Mitchell.
More of the same scenery:
And more chip-sealed roads too.
Sioux Falls is a pleasant diversion. On past tours, they stayed
in the northwest, near the airport but near nothing else. This
year they've switched to the southwest. There is a real mall
within
walking distance, Barnes and Noble, Krispy-Creme and who knows what
else. This afternoon, after an unintended nap, I cleaned my
drivetrain (there is light colored metal under all that grime-wow) and
bought a new jersey and matching socks at a big bike shop down the
street. More walking tomorrow, to church, the laundromat, maybe a
haircut and back to the mall. They say its good to get out on
your own two feet after days in the saddle. Then on Monday its on
to Minnesota.
