Day 42: Brantford, Ontario, Canada to
Niagara Falls, New York

August 1, 2004
Miles: 72
Bad news this morning. Patricia's husband Gabriel has been
following her on the tour in their van. This morning the van was
stolen from the hotel parking lot. No one was injured and
Patricia had stored her bike in their room so she's still able to ride
but it was still a major pain for them.
The hotel was short-staffed, making the breakfast buffet a bit
slow. I started out near to last and then stopped for a donut at
Tim Horton's on the edge of town. After a bit, I caught up with
Bill G. on his "big rig"
and rode to the SAG with him. Most of the roads were very lightly
traveled, allowing me to ride alongside him and chat. We covered
everything from the usual trip gossip to retirement planning, golf,
tennis and power and water supply technologies.
After the SAG, I caught up with Judith and Andrew, who were providing
company and support for Patricia. We encountered some short,
sometimes steep, rolling hills but didn't lack for "conveniences":
Today's weather was sunny and mild. As we got closer to Niagara,
the roads became pretty congested. Once we got close to the
falls, it was a zoo. We stopped for a few pictures and I'm sure
I'll shoot some more tomorrow when Pam and I walk back to the Canadian
side to hang out with her family. This shot is from the Canadian
side.
We made it through customs pretty quickly, riding in the traffic
lanes. Here are Judith and Patricia under the welcome sign:
