Day 45: Henrietta to Syracuse,
New York

August 4, 2004
Miles: 85 (89 actual due to re-routing along Erie Canal)
Today we rode out in fog, with the threat of rain later in the
day. Mike marked out, via pavement markings, an alternate to the
printed route that would take us along the Erie Canal, which used to
allow barges to travel from New York City to Lake Erie and beyond.
Here is a 1700's structure with a 1990's roof:
We were tempted to take this turn but it wasn't on the route sheet:
We got a bit of drizzle during the last 30 miles but no rain.
There's still a chance of rain tomorrow and then perhaps a few clearing
days.
The roads in New York are the best we've encountered so far--wide
shoulders and very few bike thumping cracks.
