Day 48: Troy,
New York to Brattleboro, Vermont

August 7, 2004
Miles: 76
Today promised more climbing--in the top three days for the trip--than
we've done in some time. They weren't the super-steep climbs like
Teton Pass, but a workout was had nonetheless. The weather was
unseasonably cool. I left my arm and leg warmers on all day.
Vermont is picturesqe as I expected and the roads are in pretty good
shape, though the shoulders aren't always as good as New York's.
We'll be into New Hampshire shortly into tomorrow's route.
From the top of the Hogback mountains (I think):
On the downhills today, I reached speeds of up to 45 mph.
The Catholic church in Bennington:
Brattleboro has a vibrant downtown with lots of shops. I saw
several other riders walking around it before making the two mile trek
to our hotel. Only two
days left to ride.
