Day 6: John Day to Baker City, Oregon

Weather:  Comfortable to start, warm to hot near the end

Coming after yesterday's 117 miles and having three passes to climb this was no picnic, but no worse than yesterday.  Many of us were expecting much drier, desert landscapes but they haven't materialized yet, probably because we've stayed in the mountains.

For a while, we followed the Powder River out of the canyon.  We crossed it again in Baker City on the way to the motel:



Jeff and I chugged our way into Baker City, stopping to add some air to another rider's slowly leaking tire.  When we arrived in town, we found our route blocked by a bike race:
